Community and Civic Involvement:Donato, Minx & Brown actively supports numerous civic, non-profit and charitable organizations through generous financial contributions and volunteer time. We strive diligently to be great citizens as well as expert lawyers and support staff. National Multiple Sclerosis Society benefits annually from the efforts of Team Donato, Minx & Brown, a 76 member biking team captained by Barb Minx. The team participates in the annual BP MS 150 Bike Tour from Houston to Austin. The team raised $164,000 in 2004 and successfully participated again in 2006 raising over $215,000. Team Donato, Minx & Brown was again No. 1 in the nation in the highest per rider donation. The 2006 team members participated and raised $3,652.54 per capita. WOW!!! . The team goal for 2007 was set at $250,000, and the total thus far is a little over $272,000, which took us over the million dollar mark. Since inception of the team eight years ago, $1,103,022.93 has been raised. Donato, Minx & Brown ranked 7th out of 250 teams, and the team received many awards for their efforts. Having raised over a million dollars, means the team is are now part of an elite group of teams, all of whom have raised in excess of a million dollars. Prostate Cancer Research Prostate cancer is the most common major cancer in America, even though it affects only one sex. One man in six will get it — 9 out of 10 won’t need treatment, the rest will die. There’s no good way to tell them apart. Prostate cancer kills at a higher rate than breast cancer. Nearly 32 men out of 100,000 will die of prostate cancer; 27 women out of 100,000 die of breast cancer. Tony’s Prostate Cancer Research hosts An Evening of Hope, which is attended and supported by members of Donato, Minx & Brown, P.C. Tony’s Prostate Cancer Research hosts An Evening of Hope attended and supported by firm members. Brook Minx is on the Board of Directors for Tony’s Prostate Cancer. Epilepsy Foundation holds an annual gala in Houston at which a member of our firm volunteers. Attorneys and paralegals are active in the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program which provides volunteer lawyers to handle civil matters for low-income clients. In addition, the firm’s paralegals volunteer at the monthly clinics to facilitate the smooth operation of the program. All paralegals of the firm belong to Houston Metropolitan Paralegal Association and attend and/or conduct CLE seminars and promote certification of paralegals. One of our paralegals is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association. Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Association committee volunteers benefiting youth scholarship funds. One of our paralegals volunteered time to the Livestock Committee for eight years and has worked as a volunteer for the Directions and Assistance Committee for the past five years. The firm also sponsors the Association with the purchase of season tickets. Muscular Dystrophy Association holds numerous fundraising events throughout the year. Our Financial Administrator has donated time and resources and received a “Warrant for her arrest for having a BIG HEART.” Project Kidnap Prevention Members of the firm volunteer time at events sponsored by PKP in conjunction with Texas Equusearch to prepare children’s identification kits. Sports. In support of juvenile sports and academics, the firm has sponsored Starz, a girl’s softball team for ages 6 or younger and Dynamite, a girl’s softball team for ages 8 or younger, both from Deer Park, Texas for many years. Members of the firm coach soccer, little league baseball and basketball for the Youth Sports Association. Non-Profit Organizations and Programs:The following list includes numerous charitable, non-profit organizations and programs to which employees of the firm have made financial contributions and/or donated their time and energy: In addition, the firm has collected items of food, clothing and cash to contribute to less fortunate families during the holiday season and a family who suffered a fire casualty.
